RACE EVO STANDARD: the technical support.
We locate engine working parameter maps, you recalibrate & optimize them!
Race Evo Standard allows the user to work on injection, ignition (real degrees of advance), boosting parameters, correction maps, rev./speed limiters avoiding problems tied to map locating. This is possible by the "SETTING FILES" which locate the data set areas containing all the important parameters controlling the engine working:
- in a numeric table (Cartesian diagram);
- in a 3-D chart;
- n a 2-D diagram.
To make the mechanism clear and to show the importance of this kind of technical support, here can see the visualization of a normal editor program: pages and pages of HEX/DEC information.
Even showing the same information in a 2-D graph, the situation appears a bit complicated (show image).
With most programs you have to interpret, decode and convert, these information; our setting files available for Race Evo Standard and Race Professional allow the tuner to be immediately operative on the significant data sets identified as engine working maps.
The setting files can be imagined as filters, decoding masks specific for RACE interpreting the binary/hex logic of the original data set. These information are decoded and converted into real parameters (injection, boost, etc…) allowing simple technical evaluations for tuning purposes.
A normal menu page shows for all the vehicles the list of maps available: injection, ignition, boost, rev limiter, correction maps, etc. (show image).
The list of maps allows to choose exactly the parameters to work on. The map - in this case ignition timing (spark advance at part load) - is always visualized as a Cartesian diagram with RPM (revs per minute) and LOAD as axes. The modification can be done on numeric values and in the two-dimension diagram. You can decide to increase or decrease the values with percentage or absolute variations.(show image)
All the maps can be visualized as numeric tables, 2-D diagrams and 3-D charts. This last option is particularly useful to examine data sets in order to find imperfections, irregular configurations of the curve, etc. (show image)
RACE gives the opportunity to compare different files (i.e. a modified file with the original of the same car). The differences can be reported numerically (+00000 where there are no differences between the two files) and graphically. As example, here yuo can see that the boost pressure limiter of an Audi A3 2.0 TDI EDC16/EDC16+: the 3-D chart shows the configuration of the curve. The SETTING FILE converts HEX code into absolute pressure millibar. On the right side, the numeric table shows the difference between original and modified parameters: the pressure has been increased of 200 millibar, that is 0,2 bar.
The increase of 200 millibar can be examined in the 3-D chart as well, a facile understanding.(show image).
Problems to identify the RPM limiter? Not with RACE! (show image)
If you wish to modify a specific map in a linear, semi-automatic way, you have another interesting, profitable function working for you: the Floor Sum.
This function of RACE allows the tuner to increase or decrease values in a pre-selected area. This section can be imagined as a surface represented by the 'floor': the tuner determines the increment for each value located in the four angles of this floor. (show image)Obviously all the values located in this section will be interpolated: A precise and more logical modification is therefore achieved in the few seconds of this single operation.
This semi-automatic system permits precise and homogeneous modifications of the original maps.
If you have a look at the values on the map, you will see the modified area and the logic of the modification… And you can also check, on the 3-D chart, the area modified and what you have added for the modification.(show image).
Let us say that the program in this situation works for you… Another important function assured by RACE is the immediate view of the maps previously modified when comparing two different files (one loaded in RAM1 and one in RAM2): a clear symbol identifies the maps where there are differences between the two RAM memory files. (show image).

Appealing application to reduce the consumption
RACE EVO BASIC: development system.
A challenge for your technical skills.
If you aim to be free to search the map data sets or if you feel to be experienced in map searching and you wish to have a more powerful software for your developments, Race Evo Basic is the version for you.
It enables the research of map data sets with a wide range of options. As example, as RACE is structured with two RAM memories, the tuner can load one original file in RAM1 and a modified file of an analogous ECU system in RAM2 to find the difference parameter sets.
Race Evo Basic enables the possibility to unscramble ECUs encoding algorithms: the tuner selects the ECU (example BOSCH EDC16 or ME9, etc.) to have the complete content of the eprom file "in clear".(show image).
Race Evo Basic has been developed to allow map searches in the most professional way. It enables the user to identify the working engine parameters without technical support. The tuner can find by himself the different map areas, revs/speed limiters, checksum areas, etc.. The eprom file is shown in decimal or hexadecimal numbers, 2 D and/or 3-D chart. This version of RACE requires advanced skills as well as experience in map location and tuning.
Race Evo Basic offers useful tools such as markers for significant values searching, etc.
It allows the visualization of the map in 8 or 16 bit format (8/16 bit addresses and values) with the possibility of inversion between MSB and LSB, even or odd alignment, printing of the pre-selected areas, etc. (show image)
The tuner can select the start address, number of rows and columns so as to have an area identified as map visualized in the correct way. The content of the eprom file can be visualized also in a 3D chart: "Image Surface" is the helpful function permitting to see and analyze how a specific area has been created by the manufacturer.
After setting the parameters of view (number of columns and rows, starting & final addresses), the tuner can study the map area as created by the manufacturer.
Here you can check the different visualization BEFORE and AFTER having set the parameters of view.
CAs already pointed out, with RACE EVO BASIC the tuner is not supported with technical information about the addresses of the map location, filters required, etc.
These information are available through the setting files.
Race Evo Basic allows the tuner easy intervention via OBDII as well: the original file can be read and programmed with FLASH serial system. allows the tuner easy intervention via OBDII as well: the original file can be read and programmed with FLASH serial system. The tuner can choose if starting the operations with the reading of the original parameters (then create a mod file and download it via OBDII after having the file been verified by RACE) or if download an existing mod file. In this last case, only the eprom size would be verified before the transmission of the file into the ECU.
offers the possibility to organize your archive of original and modified files: the tuner can store these archives according to MANUFACTURER MODEL ENGINE TYPE. (show image).
This option permits to organize fast and logic searches, avoiding useless and annoying waste of time consequent to an eventual untidy organization of your records.
Race Evo Basic, by using specific files called basic configuration files, allows to restore the checksum recalculation after the modification. They are software interfaces showing the complete content of the eprom file in graphic ("Full eprom chart") and numeric mode (Full eprom). Basic configuration files enable the following operations:
- checksum recalculation after every modification realized on the full eprom file;
- serial reading and programming operations with controls on congruence of the file to download, size, checksum parameters.
Basic configuration files also show in grey (not active) the list of maps available in the SETTING FILES (RACE STANDARD and RACE PLUS) for the same vehicle.(show image).
This version of RACE is particularly indicated in association with FLASH SERIAL PROGRAMMING and TRASDATA (BDM tool provided by Dimsport).
IMPORTANT: Please note that, without BASIC CONFIGURATION FILES, this version of the program allows the tuner to upload/download it via OBDII as a serial shooter: no controls about the congruence of the file are realized, just the size of the file is checked (always verified).
RACE EVO PLUS
Race Evo Standard + Race Evo Basic + Extra features: the greatest technical exploitation!
Race Evo Plus joins the highest reliability and ease in recalibration performance tuning assured by Race Evo Standard and the hugest opportunities of independent technical developments of Race Evo Basic.
Furthermore, the combination of the two versions of RACE previously examined enables some additional technical features. In this case, we could say that 1+1=3! (show image)
The tuner has the possibility - granted by RACE PLUS only - to see and clearly recognize, in the full eprom file, the location of the maps identified through the setting file, inclusive of the SPECIFIC NAME of the map! (show image).
The tuner, after loading a setting file, is enabled to read the name of the maps as indicated in the picture here. To see the next maps, it will be enough to push the button "find next". Race Evo Plus allows high level tuning intervention starting from the information supplied by DIMSPORT: we offer our experience at your full service for real custom tuning.
